What to Expect During a Pet Wellness Exam

A wellness exam helps our veterinarian learn more about your pet’s overall health. The exam typically begins with your pet and taking its vital signs. This information will be recorded as part of your cat or dog’s medical history to use for future reference when needed. We’ll then perform a nose-to-tail inspection, which can detect any early signs of illnesses or health issues. Our vet will also check your pet’s eyes and ears for infections, inspect his or her skin and coat, palpate its stomach, evaluate its joints, and listen to its heart and lungs.

Your pet’s wellness exam may also include x-rays, urine and fecal tests, and heartworm testing or bloodwork, which can display signs of parasites or hidden medical issues. We’ll devise a parasite prevention plan for your furry friend to keep him free of parasites and pests year-round.

Additional Wellness Care

Our animal hospital also offers additional wellness care services to improve your pet’s health. Some of these services include:

  • Pet Vaccinations – Vaccinations are essential for your pet’s long-term health, as the vaccines keep him or her safe from diseases that can be fatal
  • Dental Dare – Our vet can schedule annual dental exams and cleanings for your pet to maintain good oral health. Like people, pets are prone to dental problems like broken teeth, bleeding gums, oral infections, and periodontal disease. Detecting these problems early can help preserve your pet’s teeth
  • Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling – We’ll help you develop a healthy diet for your pet and discuss exercise, behavior, or lifestyle habits that need to be improved to enhance your pet’s safety and health

If you have concerns about any aspect of your pet’s health, behavior, habits or lifestyle, a wellness exam provides the perfect opportunity to discuss them with our vet. We will work closely with you to determine any changes that need to be implemented to keep your furry friend healthy.
